01How many states have live regulated online casinos?
Seven states currently operate full, state-regulated real-money online casino markets: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia. Maine authorized internet gaming in January 2026, but implementation and licensing are still underway. Nevada licenses online poker rather than a full iCasino market.
02Does legal sports betting mean online casino is legal?
No. Sports wagering, online casino games, poker, lottery products and sweepstakes are separate legal categories. A state may authorize one and prohibit or simply not regulate another.
03Are offshore casinos legal in every other state?
No blanket answer is responsible. An offshore operator can accept a registration without being licensed or legal in the player's state. State laws and enforcement differ, and U.S. regulators generally cannot provide the same consumer protections for offshore play.
04What makes a casino state-regulated?
A state regulator licenses or authorizes the operator, requires geolocation and age verification, sets technical and responsible-gaming standards, and provides a local complaint or enforcement route.
