Cite the dataset. It is free, and it is kept current.

We maintain a dated, sourced record of what every US state authorizes across online casinos, sports betting, sweepstakes and daily fantasy. Reporters, researchers and policy writers are welcome to use it with attribution, at no cost and without asking first.

Terms of use

How to attribute it.

Quote the figures, reproduce a row, or link to the matrix. We ask only that the citation names Casinos Legal USA, links to the page used, and carries the date you took the figure, since these numbers change with legislation.

  • Suggested wording: "According to Casinos Legal USA, which tracks state gambling legality across all 50 states and DC, 14 states now have sweepstakes bans or blocks in force (as of September 14, 2026)."
  • What we will not do: supply a quote endorsing an operator, accept payment for a mention, or provide figures we have not verified. If we cannot confirm something, we will tell you that instead of guessing.
  • Verification: every status traces to a state regulator page or statute, listed on that state's own page and on the source desk. Where sources conflict, the state page says so.

  • 2026-09-14: VGW settles with New York for $8 million over Chumba, Global Poker and LuckyLand Slots. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced an Assurance of Discontinuance with VGW Holdings Pty Ltd on September 9, 2026, dated August 31, 2026. VGW pays $8 million and must honor Sweeps Coin redemption requests from eligible New York accounts as of June 2, 2025, the date VGW blocked New York after an earlier OAG cease-and-desist, with a claim window through August 31, 2027. VGW must contact affected players who never redeemed those balances. The settlement does not include an admission of liability, and it is separate from LuckyLand Slots' own nationwide shutdown completing the same day, September 14, 2026.

Working on a story and need something we have not published? The desk can usually confirm a state status, a statute date or an operator's current exclusion list quickly. Contact details are being finalised; in the meantime the fastest route is the source links on the relevant state page.
